Veterans Day was observed on Saturday, Nov. 11, but throughout the week before, those who have served their country were honored in and outside of Beverly. On Nov. 9, a decommissioning ceremony was held for a Chicago Council of Gold Star Mothers memorial in the Dan Ryan Woods, at the southeast corner of 87th Street and Western Avenue. The memorial has fallen into disrepair, and it will be moved across the street to the northeast corner of 87th and Western, near the Dan Ryan Woods Visitor Center and a soon-to-be constructed children’s play area.
