Memorial set for relocation near center

A crumbling monument that honors fallen soldiers from World War I and became a major concern for local residents over the last year is set to receive a new home.

The memorial, which was installed by the Chicago Council of Gold Star Mothers (GSM), will still be in the Dan Ryan Woods in North Beverly, but it will be just a bit farther north.

According to Cook County Commissioner John Daley, the monument, which currently sits on the southeast corner of 87th Street and Western Avenue, will be moved to near the visitor center at the woods, on the northeast corner of 87th and Western.
