Just like attendees of a meeting earlier in the week, audience members at a local school council (LSC) meeting at Sutherland Elementary School emotionally voiced their disapproval on Sept. 9 over a proposal by 19th Ward Ald. Matt O’Shea to make changes at their school and several others in the neighborhood.
O’Shea’s proposal calls for Sutherland and Kellogg elementary schools to merge, with Kellogg students attending Sutherland. Keller Regional Gifted Center would move into the Kellogg building, and Mt. Greenwood Elementary School would move into the Keller building and become a two-campus school.
O’Shea was unable to attend the Sutherland meeting due to a family obligation, but he said that he will host a public forum to discuss the proposal on Sept. 12 at the Beverly Arts Center.
